Sun Nov 18th, Aldo Scribante track, Port Elizabeth- LUK 3hr Endurance race
The Endurance race is open to both Saloon cars and Sports cars of various engine sizes and technical set ups.
Fabienne teamed up with Brad Carver in car # a Volkswagen Golf Mk1 with father and sons team Geoff, Jonathan and Neil Stephen in car#96.
During Friday practice Fabienne was able to get accustomed to the saloon car which was a far cry from her karting experience. With 750kg weight and 210hp under her foot she soon managed to bring down her lap times.
Unfortunately just after the race started at 5pm Fabienne’s car suffered engine failure and so after hitching a ride back to the pits with the service truck, Fabienne set about supporting fellow team mates for the remainder of the race.
Geoff started the race in his Stephen2 Racing branded modified golf and after an hour and 20 min he came in for the pitstop and Jonathan Stephen (Brother) stepped in. Fabienne was on pit board duty and also jumped behind the camera to film the 2nd pitstop.
“We had a good lead in class from early on and were leading by 4 laps so we went into finishing mode and slacked off the pace just a notch to bring it home in one piece to win the saloon class, 3rd overall and 2nd on index of performance. The Lotus cars were not too far ahead in lap-times, only an average of 2 seconds per lap. ” said Fabienne
The best lap-time in the ‘Stephen2Racing’ Golf was done by Geoff Stephen with a 1:13:9.
Toy Run fun on Two wheels for Fabienne
Nov 25th- Next on Fabienne’s agenda was the annual charity Toy Run on Nov 25th, organised by the Motorcycling community. It was the 30th running of the event as Fabienne arrived on a BMW Scooter with SA Superbike Champion Greg Gildenhuys. She then also hopped on for a passenger ride on a Ducati 848 Evo for a quick spin around the block.
“What an experience! the acceleration of the bike is amazing and now realise how important the tank is to hold a rider when they braking. I now have a lot of respect to all the amazing riders out there!” enthused Fabienne
The annual toy run is an organisation where the biking community gets together annually to show their support to the less privileged kids. It was started by the Italian motorcycle club in 1982 and has grown to a massive amount since.
